NAC SAAC Focuses on Diversity

On November 12th, the North Atlantic Conference Student Athlete Advisory Council gathered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, for their first meeting of the academic year. 23 representatives from 10 member institutions participated in this full day event.
Dan Dutcher, NCAA Vice President for Division III, spent an hour with the students. Topics of discussion included an overview of the role SAAC plays on the institutional, conference and national levels. In addition, Dan conversed with the students on the many issues of concern that impact them as student-athletes competing in Division III. Dan concluded his session with a reminder to the students about how special their opportunities are and how Division III provides the kind of healthy balance that allows them to excel as students and to explore and experience not only their abilities in athletics but in many other areas of interest.
Following Dan's session, the students spent the remainder of the morning and the afternoon participating in Diversity Training made available through the NCAA Diversity Education Program. Facilitators Nancy Kaplan and Eric Reinecker, provided a workshop within a positive learning environment that focused on the values of diversity in maximizing team effectiveness.
