Men's Basketball

CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Anthony Joyner, Becker (Fr. F - Worcester, Mass.)
Joyner led the Hawks to a 2-1 week averaging 21 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. In the Hawks second win of the season against Anna Maria, Joyner had a career high 29 points and 13 rebounds. The freshman forward followed that up with his second double-double of the week scoring 21 and grabbing 13 rebounds in a loss to Fitchburg State College. Joyner led the Hawks to their first win of the year with 13 points in a 68-67 victory over Wentworth on Tuesday.

Frank Ponte, Johnson State (Sr. F - Harwinton, Conn.)
Ponte exploded for 27 points and 10 rebounds in a 81-72 victory at Green Mountain College to help Johnson State even its' record at 2-2. With the effort, Ponte became just the fourth Badger to reach the 1,000 career point plateau.

Larnell Jackson, Castleton State (Fr. F - Bridgeport, Conn.)
Jackson averaged 12 points per game coming of the bench in this weekend's Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich. The freshman forward scored 13 points in the first-round victory versus Newbury, including a 3-point play with just seconds remaining to give the Spartans a one point victory. Jackson backed that performance up with a solid 11 point effort in the championship game versus host, Norwich.

Women's Basketball

PLAYER OF THE WEEK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kari Simpson, Me.-Farmington (Jr. F - Wells, Maine)
Simpson led Maine-Farmington to an 81-62 conference victory over in-state rival Thomas. The junior forward shot 8-14 from the field and 8-9 from the free throw line for 26 points to go along with 16 rebounds, four assists and a steal in the Beavers only contest of the week.

Beth Pion, Becker (Fr. F - Enfield, Conn.)
Pion averaged 29 points and 10 rebounds a game for the Hawks as they went 1-1. The freshman forward scored a career-high 30 points (10-12 from the field and 7-8 from the line) in the Hawks win against Rivier. In her first conference game, Pion posted a double-double scoring 28 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in a 2-point overtime loss to Elms. Pion sent the game into overtime hitting a 3-point bucket with 5 seconds to go in regulation.
