NAC Weekly Runners for September 24, 2007

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Francis Cusick, Lesley University
(JR, - Arlington, MA)
Frannie led the men's team for the Lynx at the Blazer Invitational as he took second place at this competitive meet. With a time of 29:39 and 1:20 behind the first place finisher, Frannie solidified his status as the best runner on the Lesley squad.

 

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jamie Bean, Johnson State College
(Fr., Runner - Milford, Conn./Foran)
Bean helped the Badgers to a second-place team finish at the Blazer Invitational at Elms College on Saturday by running to an 8th place overall finish in a time of 32:22.

 

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Charlotte Goff, Lesley University
(FR, - Osterville, MA)
Freshman Charlotte Goff was a major factor in Lesley University's dominance at the Blazer Invitational. Lesley won the Invitational over conference rivals Elms College and Mount Ida College as she took second place with a stunning time of 21:01. Her time was only 1:07 behind the first place finisher as she continues to shine on this Lynx women's team.

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Lauren Cosgrove, Castleton State College
(Fr., - Byfield, MA)
Cosgrove ran a 22:42 in the women's 5K at the Cod Fish Bowl in Boston, MA. The freshman's time was good enough for 64th place out of 133 runners.

NAC Golf Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bryan Smith, Castleton State College
(Sr., - St. Albans, VT)
Smith was outstanding in a pair of matches this week. In a mid-week dual match with R.P.I. Smith shot a 76 to win the match at Equinox in Manchester, VT. The senior captain followed that up with a program-record 144 (73, 71) at the Williams College Invitational, finishing one stroke off the lead and two-over par in the 100 player field.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 

Nick Pelletier, Husson
(Fy, - Orrington, ME)
Husson won a pair of modified scoring tournaments over the weekend at Colby College. Pelletier finished tied for second on the first day shooting a 77 with a modified score of 11. On Sunday he teamed up with Adam Fournier to shoot a 2nd best 73 (6 holes Best Ball, 6 holes Alternate, 6 holes Scramble).

NAC Women's Tennis Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Charla Klaas, Castleton State College
(So., #1 - Bloomingdale, PA)
Klaas led the Spartans to a 2-0 week with wins at MCLA and Johnson State. Klaas won #1 singles at both matches, along with #2 doubles at MCLA and #1 doubles at Johnson State.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kristine Morris, Johnson State College
(Fr., #1 - Fairfield, Vt.)
Morris lead Johnson State to a 1-1 week. Morris was 1-1 in both singles and doubles action with a 6-4, 6-2 win over her Lyndon State opponent and then teaming with Chelsie O'Connell for an 8-2 win in doubles action with LSC.

NAC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kayla Blank, Castleton State College
(Jr., Forward - Whitesboro, NY)
Blank scored 4 goals and led the Spartans to a 3-0 week including a pair of conference wins over Lasell and Wheelock. In a mid-week 2-1 victory over New England College Blank scored both goals. The junior forward followed that up by accounting for two goals versus Lasell, scoring one and assisting on the other. She also tacked on a goal in a 6-0 win versus Wheelock.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Courtney Allen, Husson
(FY, F - Gardiner, ME)
The Eagles were 3-0 this week with two conference wins, out scoring their opponents 16-2. Allen had 3 goals on the week, one goal in a 5-1 win over Becker College and two goals in a 9-0 win over Elms College.

NAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

T.J. Nevue, Elms College
(So., F - Palmer, MA)
Nevue recorded three goals and one assist in two games last week, including two goals and an assist in the Blazers 3-0 shutout win over conference foe Maine-Farmington last Saturday.

 

Co-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK 

Alie Samura, Becker
(Fr, F - Milton, MA)
Samura scored four goals to led Becker to a 2-1 (1-1 NAC) week. He scored two goals in a 3-0 win over Rivier College. Alie tallied two more goals, both within a five minute span, to give the Hawks a 3-2 conference win over Thomas.

 

 

 

 

Gai Gai, Johnson State College
(Fr., Striker - Burlington, Vt.)
Gai scored both goals in the Badgers 2-0 defeat of NAC foe Maine Maritime Academy to push JSC to a 1-1 week. The goals were the first and second of Gai's young career.

Husson had two conference wins this weekend. Nickerson had 3 assists against Johnson in a 4-0 win and had 2 goals in a 4-0 win over Castleton.

 

Co-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Megan LaJoie, Husson
(Fy, F - Van Buren, ME)
The Eagles record two conference wins over the weekend. LaJoie had two goals in a 4-0 win over Johnson and recorded an assist against Castleton.

 

 

 

 

Katie Hutchinson, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Midfield - Dixfield, ME)
The freshman midfielder had 2 goals and a assist in the teams 1-1 weekend road trip through Vermont.

NAC Volleyball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amy Young, Maine Maritime Academy
(Sophomore, Middle hitter - Cumberland, ME)
The sophomore middle hitter was outstanding in the teams 2-1 week. Young had 48 kills, 12 assists, 49 digs and 13 blocks. The sophomore set school records for digs (26) in a match and blocks in a match (7). Young played every point of the three matches which consisted of 13 games. Her attack % was an impressive .416 which included 89 attacks and only 12 errors. Largely in part to her efforts, MMA is now 4-0 in the NAC after their 2 road victories this weekend.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kimbre Chase, Husson
(Fy, OP - Greene, ME)
The Eagles were 4-0 this week including a 2-0 NAC record, sweeping each match. Chase had 13 kills, 13 service aces, and 24 digs.
