PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Carolyn Griggs, Castleton State College
(Jr., Forward - Lincoln, VT)
Griggs scored three goals in the first 6:18 of play to lead the Spartans to a 4-3 win over conference foe, Simmons.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Natalie West, Simmons College
(Senior, Back - East Bridgewater, Mass.)
Natalie West scored four goals in three games last week, including three in the Shark's win over Regis on Tuesday.

NAC Golf Weekly Honors

GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Bryan Smith, Castleton State College
(Sr., - St. Albans, VT)
Smith earned medalist honors at the ECAC Championship in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The senior shot a 2-under 69 on day one, then backed that up with a 1-over 72 on day two to win the tournament by five strokes. The 141 is a new Castleton record for a two-round event, and the 69 also sets the low-mark for a round by a Spartan.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ben Costain, Thomas College
(Fr., - Benton, Maine)
Freshman Ben Costain just shot a pair of 75's at the Husson Invitational. The freshman tied for 5th in a field of 65 leading the Terriers to a 6th place team finish.

NAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jason Gianatti, Becker College
(JR, F - Southington, CT)
Gianatti picked up his first two goals of the season in the Hawks ninth win a 6-3 decision over St. Joe's.  Gianatti's first goal broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Hawks the lead for good. The junior's second goal gave the Hawks a 5-2 lead.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Miguel Dominguez, Husson
(FY, G - Rome, GA)
The Eagles were 3-0 this week, including a 4-0 win over conference rival UMF. Dominguez had a shutout against UMF making 4 saves against 12 shots. Against Green Mountain he had 7 saves against 13 shots allowing one goal. Against Lyndon State he recorded 5 saves against 8 shots again allowing one goal.

NAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kerry Kowalczyk, Me.-Farmington
(SR, GK - Topsham, ME)
Kowalczyk headlined a defense that allowed a single goal in a 3-0 week over NAC opponents. In 254:48 in goal, Kowalczyk did not allow a goal with two saves at MMA, four saves at Lesley and four saves at Thomas. Filling in for injured starter Melissa Demerchant, Kowalczyk has not allowed a goal in her last eight appearances (569:48) as the Beavers have won their last eight games.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jenna Wulfson, Johnson State College
(Fr., GK - Shelburne, Vt.)
Wulfson led JSC to a 2-0 week with a pair of shutouts including a big NAC road victory over Elms 1-0 as well as a 3-0 win over Paul Smith's. Wulfson made a career-high 11 stops in the victory over Elms keeping the Badgers playoff hopes alive.

NAC Women's Tennis Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Charla Klaas, Castleton State College
(So., #1 - Bloomingdale, PA)
Klaas led Castleton to a 2-0 week playing #1 singles and #2 doubles. The sophomore won both singles matches, losing just 7 games in her straight-set wins. Klaas also teamed with Emily Hallett to win both doubles matches.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Danielle Stryker, Becker College
(Fr, - Ledyard, CT)
Stryker went undefeated in the number four singles slot going 2-0 with wins over Newbury and Lyndon State College. Paired with Colleen Murphy in the number two doubles slot the team went 3-0. Overall Becker went 3-0 last week.

NAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Amy Young, Maine Maritime Academy
(Sophomore, Middle hitter - Cumberland, ME)
The sophomore had another outstanding week for the Lady Mariners. Amy had 17 kills, 2 aces, 13 digs and 2 blocks in the win 3-1 win against St. Joe's. Her attack % was .429 for the match. She followed that match win a dominating performance in the team's 3-0 win against rival Husson College on Thursday night. Young had 16 kills, 3 assists, 3 aces, 26 digs, and 2 monster blocks in the 3 game victory over the Eagles. Her attack % was an astounding .542 in the match.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Amy Boardman, Me.-Farmington
(FR, OH - York, ME)
Boardman helped UMF to a 4-1 week, accumulating 78 digs in five games. Boardman, who also served up 17 aces during the week, had an eight-kill, 21-dig effort in a 3-2 loss to Husson and 22 digs in a 3-2 win over Salem State.

NAC Cross Country Weekly Honors

WOMEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Emily Farley, Me.-Farmington
(SO, - Mount Desert Island, ME)
Farley led UMF to a team win at St. Joseph's College's Runnin' Monks Invitational on Saturday. Farley came in third at the 5,000-meter competition.

WOMEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Sage Small, Castleton State College
(Fr., - Vernon, CT)
Small finished 46th out of 232 competitors at the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State College. The freshman finished the 5K in 21:09.

MEN'S RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Tim Millett, Me.-Farmington
(FR, - Gorham, ME)
Millett won the St. Joseph's College Runnin' Monks Invitational on Saturday to lead the Beavers to a first-place finish at the event. Millett overtook leader Ryan Prescott of St. Joseph's in the last 200 meters to snatch the victory by one second. At UNE a month earlier, Prescott had beaten Millett by two minutes, 46 seconds.

 

MEN'S ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 

Michael Campbell, Castleton State College
(Fr., - Schenectady, NY)
Campbell finished 81st out of 244 competitors in the James Early Invitational 8K hosted by Westfield State College. The freshman finished the course in a time of 29:38.
