North Atlantic Conference Alters Plans for Football Sponsorship
The North Atlantic Conference will not add football to its list of conference sponsored sports as initially intended for the fall of 2009. The institutions which had planned to participate with the NAC have determined the formation of a single sport football conference will better serve the needs of their football programs.
Castleton State College and Husson University will continue full membership with the NAC and will participate with 6 other institutions in the newly formed Eastern Collegiate Football Conference. The decision to alter plans was fully supported by the members of the North Atlantic Conference Presidents and Athletic Directors Council.
“All involved parties came to the consensus that this move would have the greatest positive impact on the student-athletes participating in football” said NAC Commissioner Julie Muller. “The NAC does not expect any negative impact from this decision and is pleased for the enhanced opportunities for Castleton and Husson and the other schools who will be competing in the ECFC.”
The North Atlantic Conference will continue to sponsor championships in 12 sports and will participate with the North Eastern Athletic Conference in Baseball and Women’s Tennis beginning spring of 2010.
