Husson University Wins NAC Golf Championship

Orono, ME- Husson University won the North Atlantic Conference Men's Golf Championship, besting the field by 40 strokes with a two-day total of 604 at the Penobscot Valley Country Club.
Kevin Byrne of Husson fired a two-day 142 to earn medalist honors for the tournament. Four Husson golfers finished among the top five. Husson's Mike Hersey's 148 (71,77) placed second overall with the 2008 NAC Player of the Year Castleton's Michael Krahn (74, 81) finishing third. Husson's Matt Loubier placed fourth with a two day score of 157 (76,81) and Farmington's Reid Bond (80,78) and Husson's John Elis (79, 79) tied for fifth.
Castleton finished second in the team scoring (644), eight strokes better than third place Maine-Farmington. Thomas (704) was fourth followed by Maine Maritime (710), Johnson State (729) and Green Mountain (866).

Husson Leads after Day One of the NAC Golf Championship
Husson's Kevin Byrne's strong back nine led him to the lead in the club house with a first round low score of 70. Teammate Mike Hersey posted a 71 with last year's NAC Golfer of the Year Castleton's Michael Krahn in the hunt with a first round 74.

2009 NAC Golf Championship
Three time defending champion Husson University will host the 2009 North Atlantic Conference Golf Championship, Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12 at the Penobscot Country Club in Orono, Maine. Participating will be Castleton, University of Maine-Farmington, Green Mountain College, Johnson State College, Maine Maritime Academy and Thomas College.
The seven teams will compete in the two-day event beginning Sunday
at 9:30 am. Tee times have been predetermined for Sunday's round.
Monday's tee times will be announced following Sunday's round.
