TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emily Lopez, Colby-Sawyer
(Sr., Multi - Lincolnville, Maine)
Lopez competed at Conn. College on Friday and came away with a New England qualifying time of 2:20.20 in the 800 meter run, placing eighth. On Saturday at Fitchburg State, the senior posted a personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.35 to finish third out of 15.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emmani Robinson, Colby-Sawyer
(Jr., Throws - Newburgh, N.Y.)
Robinson had a phenomenal performance at the Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State, as she broke her own school record of 12.99 meters in the shot put with a toss of 13.59 meters to win the event. The distance currently ranks her ninth in the nation this season. The junior also finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 31.97 meters.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Leah Desjardins, Husson
(Fr., Sprints - Poland, Maine)
Desjardins recorded a successful week on the track helping the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team set a new program record finishing in 51.33 seconds. The rookie also placed in the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a personal best time of 27.07 seconds for a fifth place finish.
AROUND THE NAC
Castleton captured fifth place out of 17 teams with 62.50 points at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invite at Fitchburg State on Saturday. Brielle DeBaise competed in four different events and earned top-10 finishes in each one. She set new school records in the hammer and javelin, placed second in the discus, and took seventh in the shot put. The Spartans are back in action Saturday for the Vern Cox Invitational at Springfield College.
Colby-Sawyer finished second out of 17 teams at Saturday's Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State. On Friday at Conn. College, Kylee Parker smashed her own school record time of 19:00.58 in the 5k with an impressive record time of 18:34.72 to place 19th. That time also qualifies Parker for New England's. Emily Lopez came away with a New England qualifying time of 2:20.20 in the 800 meter run and placed 8th. Saturday's meet was highlighted by Emmani Robinson. She broke her own school record of 12.99 meters in the shot put with a toss of 13.59 meters to win today's event. The distance ranks her ninth in the NCAA this season. Robinson also finished fourth in the discus with a mark of 31.97 meters. Right behind Robinson, in the shot put, was Rachel Quaye, as she finished second with a distance of 12.05 meters. Quaye's best event of the day was the javelin, with a New England and ECAC qualifying mark of 37.32 meters to finish second out of 25. The team will head to MIT this Saturday.
UMaine-Farmington placed seventh out of 17 teams at the Fitchburg State Invitational.
Green Mountain was led by a pair of competitors in Saturday's Mount Holyoke Spring Fling meet. Julia Harcourt set two new personal bests in the shot put and discuss events, while Jiayong Chen set a new personal standard in the 800m. The team will head to the Univ. of Albany Classic on Saturday for its next meet.
Husson was led my impressive performances by Casey Modery at the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday after she placed in the top five in three individual track and field events, then helped her 4x100-meter relay team break the school record time in 51.33 seconds for a fourth place finish. The Eagles will be competing in the Aloha Relays coming up this Saturday.
Johnson State finished 17th at the Eric Loeschner Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday. The Badgers were led by Lily Denmeade, who broke her own school record in the 400 meter with a time of 1:12.07. Johnson will compete in the Albany Spring Classic at the University of Albany on Saturday.
Lyndon competed at the Eric Loeschner Track and Field Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State Saturday afternoon, finishing 16th out of 17 teams. Abby Salvadore, who qualified for the New England Championships two weeks ago, placed sixth in javelin throw with a distance of 31.86m to lead the Hornets. Lyndon will head to the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday, Aprill 22.
