    CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior pitcher Tyler Erickson (Naugatuck, Conn.), who was recently named the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Pitcher of the Year, has been selected to pitch in the 38th Annual NEIBA All-Star game Monday, June 4 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts at 7 pm.

    CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior pitcher Tyler Erickson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and junior second baseman Ryan Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y.) both earned spots on the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-New England squads earlier this week.
  • Castleton Set to Travel to Farmingdale St. for NCAA Baseball Regional

    CASTLETON, Vt.- Castleton State College will be the sixth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division III Baseball Regional hosted by Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Spartans will take on top-seeded SUNY Cortland on Wednesday at 10 am in the opener of the six-team, double-elimination tournament. Other first-round match-ups on Wednesday include (2) Farmingdale St. vs. (5) Skidmore and (3) Ithaca vs. (4) Misericordia. The tournament will run Wednesday -through-Friday with a pair of games on Saturday if necessary.
  • Aker, Erickson Lead Castleton Baseball to NEAC Title

    Castleton senior pitchers Tyler Erickson and Dakota Aker each threw complete-game shutouts to propel the Spartans to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The duo shared Most Valuable Player honors, combining for 17 strikeouts in the 18 shutout innings.
  • NEAC East Baseball Weekly Honors

    Tyler Erickson led Castleton to its second NEAC East title in three years, tossing 18 innings without allowing an earned run, to earn MVP and Player of the Week honors. The Spartans will take on Penn St.-Berks in a best-two-out-of-three series this weekend to determine who will represent the NEAC in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
  • NEAC East Baseball All-Conference Announced

    Castleton junior second baseman Ryan Zielinski was honored as the North Eastern Athletic Conference East Division Baseball Player of the Year in a vote by the division’s coaches. The 2010 Rookie of the Year, Zielinski is the first Spartan to win the award since 2004.

    Jeff Richardson set the table all week for Thomas, batting .500 as the leadoff hitter and earning Player of the Week honors, while teammate Tim Locke helped the Terriers seal the second seed in the upcoming NEAC East Tournament with an impressive win over third-seeded Husson and was named Rookie of the Week. Tyler Erickson fired back-to-back complete game wins over Colby-Sawyer in a pivotal doubleheader and was named Pitcher of the Week.

    Thomas senior infielder Ben Goodall was responsible for 23 runs this week, driving in 15 and scoring eight more and was named Player of the Week. P.J. Singster pitched 15.1 scoreless innings for Colby-Sawyer, earning a pair of wins and Pitcher of the Week honors. Colin Mello hit safely in five-straight games for UMF, posting a .500 batting average while scoring three times to earn Rookie of the Week honors.

    Castleton went 7-0 this week and boasts the Player of the Week (Ryan Zielinski) and Pitcher of the Week (Dakota Aker), while Husson's Casey Estes garnered Rookie of the Week accolades. Zielinski hit .500, slugged .792 and posted a .571 on base percentage to lead the Spartan offense while Aker was a standout on the hill, posting a no-hitter in his lone start. Estes made his four appearance count for the Eagles, going 5-for-11 as Husson went 3-1.

    David Brandt posted an incredible .889 on base percentage at the top of Castleton's order this week and smacked his first career home run, an inside the park grand slam, to earn Player of the Week honors. Colby-Sawyer's P.J. Singster pitched the Chargers to their first-ever NEAC East win, a shutout of Thomas and was named Pitcher of the Week. UMF Catcher Matthew Woodbury batted .538 and slugged .615 and was named Rookie of the Week.

    Castleton opened its NEAC East slate with a shutout sweep of Lyndon State and earned both Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. Joe Borowski was on base all weekend, posting an on base percentage of .800 in four games while batting .571 to earn Player of the Week honors. Tyler Erickson breezed through a complete game shutout of Lyndon, striking out seven Hornets and was named Pitcher of the Week. Husson freshman hurler Joe Stanevicz was named Rookie of the Week, striking out four over six shutout innings versus New England College.

    Castleton's Ryan Zielinski hit .474 with an impressive .565 on base percentage to lead the Spartans to a pair of wins and earn Player of the Week honors. New England College earned Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors as the Pilgrims opened the season 6-1. Eric Johnson picked up three of the wins on the hill and Juan Berrios batted .421 in his first seven career games to lead the charge.

    Colby-Sawyer's Greg Mehuron and Kevin Keith earned Player and Pitcher of the Week honors respectively to open the NEAC East Weekly Honors for 2012. Mehuron reached base safely in eight of nine games he appeared in, batting .433 to open the season. Keith was impressive inn a pair of starts, going 2-0 with a paltry 0.62 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14 innings. Husson's Brandon Gendreau batted .368 in his first seven collegiate games and was named NEAC East Rookie of the Week.
