Husson Wins Game Four

Husson scored four times in the top of the eighth inning to erase a three-run deficit and held in the final two Castleton at bats to earn an 7-6 comeback victory in the fourth game of the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.

The Eagles' 7-6 win advances them to Sunday's 10 am championship contest, where they will face the winner of Saturday's final game featuring Castleton and the University of Maine at Farmington

Casey Estes earned the win by tossing 31 innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out two. Robert Gould took the loss as he allowed all four runs in the eighth and walking three with a single strikeout.

Offensively, Joe Borowski was3-for-3 while Dan Errico belted a pair of doubles and Nate Swahn had a double and a triple along with two walks. Castleton out-hit the Eagles by a slim 11-10 margin but left 13 runners on base in the game.

Husson jumped on the Spartans in the top of the second. Started Adam Greenlese loaded the bases with a double and two walks and the Eagles scored their first run on a wild pitch. Swahn collected the ball at the backstop and threw it to Greenlese but Kyle Bishop apparently slid under the tag. Husson followed with back-to-back RBI singles before Greenlese was able to get out of the inning, down 3-0.

Castleton finally cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Swahn drew a two-out walk and came around to score on consecutive errors by the Husson defense to make it 3-1.

Greenlese sent the Eagles down in order in the fifth and offense gave him some help in the bottom of the frame. Allen White reached on a fielding error by the left fielder and scored on a deep single by Borowski. Borowski was then thrown out trying to steal for the second out, but Macyn Clifford was hit by a pitch to extend the inning. Matt McNamee followed with an RBI double and then scored on a triple to left by Swahn to give Castleton a 4-3 lead.

In the sixth Greenlese allowed a pair of walks and got two outs before being lifted for freshman Devin Hayes. Hayes induced a groundout to end the frame.

The offense kept it up in the sixth with two more runs to extend the Spartan advantage to 6-3. With a runner on, Joe Borowski doubled to left field and then Dan Errico scored both runners with a double of his own to left.

Husson came all the way back in the top of the eighth. The Eagles earned a one-out single and then a walk to put two runners on. Jordan Carter hit a two-run double to cut the Castleton lead to one. Two batters later, with two out, Dylan Foster singled, scoring Carter to tie it 7-7. Later in the inning JT Whitten drew a bases loaded walk to give the Eagles the lead.

Castleton threatened in the bottom of the eighth. Tyler Lord led off the bottom of the frame with a single to shortstop and White followed by bunting a ball past the charging third baseman. Borowski advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Dan Errico was intentionally walked to load the bases. Estes induced a pop up for the second out. McNamee then hit a grounder to the back of third which was fielded by a diving Josh Gaudette and he got up in time to make the throw to beat out McNamee and end the inning.

Dan Whitney closed it out for Husson in the ninth as they improved to 26-10 with the victory. Castleton dropped to 26-10 with the loss.
