WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - A cold-shooting first half by both #19 Williams College (21-6) and Husson University (17-11) led to a six-point difference going into the final half of the game, but consistency from the floor kept the Ephs ahead as they finished Friday night with a first round win, 86-60, in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2019 championship. Husson University, the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Champion, will take on Williams College in the first round of the national tournament. The Eagles will travel to Williamstown, Mass. to play the Ephs on their home court.
Fifth-seeded Thomas College upset #1 UMaine-Farmington in a nailbiter, 86-85, to advance to the championship. Second-seeded Husson University was victorious over #3 SUNY Canton in an 85-74 decision. The Terriers will face the Eagles at 2:00PM Saturday, February 23 at UMaine-Farmington for the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title.
Maine Mariner Adam Richardson tops the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Basketball All-Conference announcement with two major awards; collecting both Player of the Year and Senior Scholar Athlete honors. Also earning major awards in 2019 are SUNY Canton Sophomore Andrew Fitch - Defensive Player of the Year, UMaine-Presque Isle freshman Griffin Guerrette - Rookie of the Year, and Maine Maritime head coach Dan McNeely - Coach of the Year. Ten players are on the All-Conference teams, and eight student athletes make up the Sportsmanship Team.
Thomas and SUNY Canton both prevailed in tightly contested quarterfinal games, and will advance to the semifinal round on Friday, February 22, at UMaine-Farmington. The top-seeded Beavers will play No.4 Thomas at 5:30 PM, followed by No. 2 Husson taking on No. 3 SUNY Canton at 7:30 PM.
