GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Ayer, Castleton

Ayer has been Castleton's most consistent golfer through the first two weekends of the 2017 fall season. The sophomore opened the year by winning the Johnson State Invitational individual title, shooting 83 to finish one stroke ahead of his nearest competitor. He also led the Spartans to the team title by 21 strokes. At the Middlebury Fall Classic in Lake Placid, N.Y., Ayer was Castleton's second finisher, ending up in 18th place in the Saturday stroke-play round after shooting an 82, while playing in tough conditions against golfers from Middlebury, Williams, and Skidmore.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Connor Mersch, Maine Maritime

Mersch had an impressive first week for the Mariners, leading the team in the John Queenan Memorial Tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday. The rookie was the overall top finisher for the Mariners, leading the way with a 75 (+3) to finish second overall out of 40 golfers on the par 72 course. On Saturday, Mersch finished second overall at the Mariners' dual match with UMaine-Presque Isle, carding an 80 (+8).
AROUND THE NAC
Castleton opened the 2017 fall season by winning the Johnson State Invitational by 21 strokes, with Jordan Ayer earning medalist honors. This past weekend, the Spartans finished fourth in the stroke play portion of the Middlebury Fall Classic, led by Jacob Erwin's 74 which put him in a tie for fourth place. Castleton will play in another tournament hosted by Middlebury, the Duke Nelson Invitational September 16-17.
UMaine-Farmington finished in sixth place out of 11 teams at the Bowdoin Invitational.
Green Mountain was led by a pair of Eagles who braved the cool and blustery conditions at Rocky Ridge Golf Course on Friday, September 1. The Eagles were paced by freshman Coleman Ashworth who was playing in his first collegiate round of his career. The Eagles then earned a third-place finish in the team's home invitational this past Saturday. Ashworth posted a fourth-place finish overall with a final score of 87 to lead the team. GMC will compete at the MCLA Golf Classic on Thursday in the team's lone match of the week.
Husson will tee off on September 16 and 17 at the Maine Collegiate Championship.
Johnson won the Green Mountain Invitational on Saturday with a team score of 343. David Albright earned medalist honors for the badgers, shooting a 79 on the day. The Badgers are off this week, with their next match coming on September 20 at the Sage Invitational.
MCLA opened the season with a fourth place finish (4-of-6) at the Cobleskill Invitational. MCLA was led by Matt Lawrence, who fired a 79 including a holed out eagle on the Par 4 Eighth hole. Reese Dwyer shot his best number in a Trailblazer uniform as well carding an 81. MCLA has been off until the team hosts the Trailblazer Invitational at Berkshire Hills Country Club on September 14.
Maine Maritime finished fourth at John Queenan Memorial Tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday, led by freshman Connor Mersch who finished second overall. On Saturday, the Mariners defeated UMaine Presque Isle in a dual match, led by Erich Klopfer who finished first overall. Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, September 13, at the UMaine-Farmington Invitational at the Waterville Country Club.
UMaine-Presque Isle opened the season by hosting Maine Maritime on Saturday. Three of the five golfers got their NCAA debut under their belt, but MMA defeated UMPI handily. The Owls look to build on the experience going forward.
Salem State open at the MCLA Invitational at Berkshire Hills Country Club on September 14.
