Husson College Eagles win 2006 North Atlantic Conference Golf Championship

The Husson College men's golf team captured the 2006 North Atlantic Conference Golf Championship hosted on Saturday and Sunday, October 14-15 by Maine Maritime Academy at Kebo Valley Golf Club in Bar Harbor, Maine. Husson will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament next spring.
 

The Eagles shot a team score of 613 over the two days finishing 40 shots better than the second placed Elms College Blazers who shot 653. UMaine Farmington placed third with a two-day score of 660, and rounding out the field were Castleton State College at 667, Thomas College at 691, Becker College at 713, and host team Maine Maritime Academy at 733.
 
Individual medalist and NAC Golfer of the Year honors for 2006 went to Chris Coffin of Husson College who shot 73, 73 for a 6-over two day total of 146.
 
Joining Coffin on the NAC All-Conference First Team were teammates Adam Duplisea who finished second on 150 (72, 78), and Lance Libby who finished in third place shooting 151 (74, 77). Neil Daigneault of Elms College finished fourth on 156 (78, 78), and on 161 it was Justin Richard of Becker College (81, 80) and Jim Hurlbut of Elms College (79, 82) who rounded out the 2006 NAC Golf All-Conference First Team.

The NAC All-Conference Second Team was made up of Kyle Feltis (UMaine Farmington), Bryan Smith (Castelton State), DJ Jennings (UMaine Farmington), Ben Kwiatoski (Elms College), and Kevin McGuire (Castleton State).

Championship Information

The North Atlantic Conference Golf Championships will be hosted by Maine Maritime Academy this weekend October 14-15 at the Kebo Valley Golf Club in Bar Harbor, Maine. Seven institutions will compete in the two day tournament. The scores of the lowest four individuals on each team, total strokes over the two days, will count toward the team total. The team with the lowest total will be declared the champion. Competition will begin each day at 10:00 a.m. Tee times are set for Saturday's rounds. Sunday's tee times will be announced following Saturday's play.

COMPETING INSTITUTIONS:
Becker College, Castleton State College, Elms College, Husson College, University of Maine at Farmington, Thomas College, and host Maine Maritime Academy.

SUNDAY TEE TIMES WILL BE ANNOUNCED AFTER SATURDAY'S PLAY

COACHES:
The names of each institution's five golfers, with the starting order, is due to MMA Director of Athletics Jim Dyer no later than Wednesday October 11th. The entry fee which covers both days' play for the entire team is $300. Please have a check, payable to Maine Maritime Academy, sent to Jim Dyer at MMA.

PRACTICE ROUNDS:
Peiter DeVos, Golf Pro at Kebo Valley Golf Club, has indicated that practice rounds are now be available at the club on Friday either before 10:30 am or after 1:30 pm. The greens fee cost per player would be $25.00. To schedule a tee time, call DeVos at (207) 288-3000.

DIRECTIONS:
From I-395 East in Bangor, Maine, take route 1A south toward Bar Harbor. Proceed through Ellsworth, route 1A becomes route 3. Cross the bridge between the island and the mainland and bear LEFT remaining on route 3. Once in Bar Harbor, you will come to a stop sign, and route 233. Take a RIGHT and Kebo Valley Golf Club is a half mile on your LEFT.
