The North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's soccer regular season wrapped up today with Maine Maritime (8-6-1 overall, 6-1 NAC) emerging as the top seed.
Thomas (12-4-1, 5-1-1) and Husson (7-8-3, 5-1-1) finished the season with identical conference records, leading to a series of tiebreaking procedures. After comparing head to head results, and results against conference opponents, results against common non-conference opponents were reviewed. Each team lost to Colby and Bowdoin and won against the University of New England. Thomas edged-out Husson for the second seed by virtue of a win against the University of Southern Maine, whereas Husson's match against the Huskies resulted in a tie.
Tiebreaking procedures were used to separate No. 4 Northern Vermont-Johnson (10-6, 4-3) and No. 5 SUNY Canton (7-9-2, 4-3) as well. NVU-Johnson won the head to head battle and the higher seed. No. 6 UMaine-Farmington (5-12, 2-5) completes the tournament field.
A six-team tournament means the top two seeded teams receive a bye for the first round. No. 3 Husson will host No. 6 UMaine-Farmington Saturday, October 27th at 3:00 pm, while No. 4 NVU-Johnson hosts No. 5 SUNY Canton at 2:00 pm.
The semifinal and championship games will happen in a final four format hosted by Maine Maritime on November 3rd and 4th. No. 1 Maine Maritime will play the No. 4/No. 5 winner at 2:00 pm, and No. 2 Thomas will play the winner of the game between No. 3/No. 6 at 4:30 pm. The semifinal game winners will meet in the championship match on Sunday, November 4 at 2:30 pm.
The NAC Champion will move on to play in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.
