The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Castleton, 5-0, to win its fifth-consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division championship.
The Chargers improve to 14-5 and advance to play Penn State Abington in next weekend's NAC/NEAC Crossover match with a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The match will take place on May 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the Tri-City Tennis Club in Latham, N.Y. The two teams will meet for the third-straight season as the Nittany Lions defeated Penn State Berks 5-2 in the NAC West Division title match. Colby-Sawyer won last year's crossover match 7-2.
The Chargers swept doubles play to take an important 3-0 lead in the match. The No. 1 doubles duo of Gustav Jigrup and Andrew Peloquin got the Chargers' first point with an 8-1 victory over Seth Marcil and Kevin Rosset. Dean Boodakian and Ryan Sawyer held off Soren Pelz-Walsh and Quentin Barthe to win the No. 2 match at 8-6, while Ross Kenney and Alex captured the third-flight match, 8-6.
Jigrup gave Colby-Sawyer a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Marcil. Wright closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second-flight match. He was named Tournament MVP after winning all four of his matches this afternoon.

*Beginning with the 2010 season, the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) has partnered with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) in the sport of men's and women's tennis. The NEAC will compete as associate members of the NAC in men's tennis, while the NAC will compete as associate members of the NEAC in women's tennis. Members from each conference will be divided into an East and West Division for each sport, with each division holding a championship and the two divisional champions then facing off to determine the conference champion. The conference winner for each sport will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
NAC members Castleton, Colby-Sawyer, Green Mountain, Johnson State, Lyndon, MCLA and Thomas will compete in the East Division. NEAC members Bryn Athyn, Keuka, Lancaster Bible, Penn College, Penn State Abington and Penn State Berks will play as associate members of the NAC in a West Division.
