NAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors (Week Ending April 8)

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Kyle Diezel, Colby-Sawyer (Jr. - Pittsford, Vt.)

Diezel raced to a first place finish out of 16 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.41 to help Colby-Sawyer finish second out of 16 teams at Saturday's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State. The junior also was on the 4x100 relay team that finished second out of nine with a time of 46.80.  

 

FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Karl Nyholm, Colby-Sawyer (Sr. - Concord, Mass.)

Nyholm set a record in the hammer throw to lead Colby-Sawyer to a second place finish at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State. The senior placed third in the hammer with a school record throw of 44.45 meters, breaking the previous record of 41.61 meters set in 2010, which also qualified him for the New England Championships. Nyholm also collected two victories in his other throw events, as he took first out of 27 in the discus with a distance of 43.56m, ranking him fifth in New England. He also finished first in the shot put with a toss of 14.72m to beat the 30 other competitors.  

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Shawn Spenard, Colby-Sawyer (Fr. - Northwood, N.H.)

Spenard won the triple jump with a distance of 11.71 meters to help Colby-Sawyer place second out of 16 teams at Saturday's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State. He also was a part of the 4x100 relay team that finished second out of nine in a time of 46.80 to claim eight points for the Chargers.   

 

 

 

AROUND THE NAC

Castleton placed fourth out of 16 teams at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday at Fitchburg State University. Tayler Larmie shined in the hammer throw, as the junior qualified for the New England Division III Championships with a second-place and progra record-setting throw of 46.43 meters. The Spartans are back in action Saturday for the Panther Invitational at Middlebury.

The Chargers finished second out of 16 with 118 points. Nyholm placed third in the hammer with a school record throw of 44.45 meters, breaking the previous record of 41.61 meters set in 2010. That mark also qualified him for the New England Championships. Nyholm collected two victories in the other throw events, as he was the top-finisher out of 27 in the discus with a distance of 43.56m and also won the shot put with a toss of 14.72m to beat the 30 other competitors. Numerous other Chargers came away with individual wins on the day, as Peter Bakker took the top spot in the 3000-meter steeplechase, Shawn Spenard won the triple jump and Kyle Diezel was the top-finisher in the 400-meter dash. Colby-Sawyer will compete at Middlebury next weekend. 

UMaine-Farmington took third place at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite at Fitchburg State University out of 16 teams. Friday's event at Regis was cancelled due to weather. 

Husson did not compete as the Regis meet the Eagles were going to compete at was cancelled due to weather.

Johnson opened the season at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State on Saturday, finishing 11th with 14 points. The Badgers will compete in the Panther Spring Invitational on Saturday at Middlebury College. 

Lyndon competed in the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on Saturday. Josh Thibault set a new school record in the javelin, throwing 38.73 m.

UMPI saw the Regis College Spring Classic cancelled due to weather and competed at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite at Fitchburg State this past week. The Owls finished eighth out of 16 teams.
