Colby-Sawyer Men Capture 2017 NAC Cross Country Championship
The Colby-Sawyer Chargers claimed the 2017 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 28. Grandon Smith of Castleton was the men's individual champion as he completed the course in 26:24.9.
The Chargers earned first place after scoring 37 points with four runners in the top nine. The 8k championship race included 85 total runners, representing 11 schools.
The men's runner-up was Castleton, as the Spartans turned in an 83, while UMaine-Farmington was third (89), Maine Maritime was fourth (90), followed by Husson (130), Thomas (182), Lyndon (184) UMaine-Presque Isle (210), Johnson (242), Green Mountain (247) and New England College (285).

Smith completed the course 20 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, as Jeremiah Sands of UMaine-Farmington finished second in a time of 26:44.7. Colby-Sawyer's Peter Bakker was third in 26:55.2, while Castleton's Gannon McKearin placed fourth with a time of 27:09.3. Jarrod Ottman of Thomas finished fifth with a time of 27:17.7, followed by Colby-Sawyer's Ben Jones in sixth in 27:22.9. The Chargers' Bruin Smith finished seventh in 27:56.1, while UMF's Robbie Hollis placed eighth in 28:04.3.
