Player & Pitcher of the Week

Jen Jones, Husson
(Junior, P/OF - Acton, Maine)

Leading her team to a 3-1 week both at the plate and in the circle, Jones posted a .417 batting average with four runs scored and one RBI. She smashed five hits, two doubles, and a triple in 12 at bats. Pitching in all four games, Jones accumulated 26 strikeouts in 17 innings, while giving up just a single walk, one earned run, and nine hits to record an impressive 0.41 ERA. She earned two wins and her first save of the season as the Eagles defeated Colby College 6-1, and swept SUNY Canton 7-1, 8-5, in their home opener. In the 7-1 win over the Roos, the sophomore pitcher tallied 13 strikeouts. She then recorded an additional two punch outs to pick up the save in the seventh inning of game two with the Roos. In the outfield, Jones boasted a perfect fielding percentage with nine putouts and four assists, including an incredible diving catch in the outfield to shut down the Roos. 


Rookie of the Week

Whitney Bess, Husson
(Freshman, OF/3B - Madison, Maine)

Batting an even .500 throughout a 3-1 week for the Eagles, Bess helped Husson open up conference action with a 2-0 sweep over SUNY Canton, and split a doubleheader against Colby College earlier in the week. At the plate, she went 6-12 with three runs scored and four more batted in, while drawing three walks. She launched a triple against the Roos to help secure a 7-1 triumph in game one of the twin bill. Bess was consistent in the outfield with two putouts on two touches.
