LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Husson University utility player Arika Brochu claimed the final Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player of the Week honor of the 2019 season. She becomes the first Eagle to ever claim recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Brochu hit .625 with seven runs, two doubles, a homer and two RBI, to help propel Husson to their second-straight North Atlantic Conference tournament title. The Augusta, Maine product also tossed 11 innings in the circle, going 1-0 and fanning nine batters.
Three other Eagles were also mentioned by the NFCA as top-performers this past week:
- Husson senior catcher Kylie Cunningham caught teammate Jen Jones' perfect game and hit .294 with five runs scored.
- Husson junior pitcher Jen Jones pitched a perfect game in the NAC tournament championship, and struck out 24 over 22 innings for the week, while walking only one, en route to four wins. She also batted .529 at the plate.
- Husson senior outfielder Olivia Smith drove in the winning run in the conference title game, and hit .429 overall for the week with four runs, four walks, two homers, and 10 RBI.
