2011-12 North Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams Announced

Colby-Sawyer junior Taylor DeSanty has been selected the 2011-12 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches. DeSanty ranked second in scoring, averaging 22 points per game in conference play, while ranking among the top-five in three-pointers made (46) and three-point field goal percentage (36.5%).

Joining DeSanty on the All-Conference First Team is Thomas guard Karin Bird, Husson forward Brianna Hanscom, Castleton forward Vanessa Powers and New England College forward Rachel Williams.

Bird makes her third-straight appearance on the All-Conference First Team after a season in which she led the country in scoring. Her 24.9 points per conference game led the league, and she also finished with a conference-leading 138 free throws while ranking fourth in free-throw percentage at 72.6%.

Hanscom, a two-time All-Conference First Team recipient and Rookie of the Year in 2009 returns to the first team after missing a majority of last season due to injury. Hanscom finished in the top-ten in scoring (14.6 p/g), rebounds (9.4 r/g), blocks (20), steals (41) and field goal percentage (44.9%).

Powers makes her second appearance on the All-Conference First Team and led a Castleton offense which ranked second in the league in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game, fifth in conference play. The senior forward also ranked first in field goal percentage (50.2%) and seventh in rebounding at 8.6 per contest.

Williams was a catalyst for New England College, averaging 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The senior forward was second in conference field goal percentage at 47.2% and finished third with 46 steals.

Castleton guard Kelly Conway was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year for the second-straight season. Conway led a Spartan defense which ranked first in the league in points allowed (47.4), steals (12.3), field goal percentage against (31.4%), and three-point field goal percentage against (26.5%).

New England College first-year forward Taylor Burgess earned Rookie of the Year accolades, averaging 10.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while ranking fifth in field goal percentage (45.6%).

Castleton Head Coach Tim Barrett was voted Coach of the Year by his peers after piloting the Spartans to a 16-2 mark in conference play and the top-seed in the NAC Tournament. It is the third time he has earned the award (2003 & 2008).

The University of Maine at Farmington was honored with the Sportsmanship Award .
