Eagles Claim Top Seed for 2019 NAC Women's Basketball Tournament

Husson claimed the top seed for the 2019 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, which begins with quarterfinal matchups on campus sites this Saturday, February 16.

The Eagles (17-8 overall) claimed the top seed in the conference tournament after compiling a 13-1 record in NAC play, resulting in a bye in the quarterfinal round and the right to host the final four. Second-seeded Maine Maritime (18-6 overall, 12-2 NAC) also earned a bye in the quarterfinals.

SUNY Canton (11-13, 8-6) claimed the No. 3 seed, and Northern Vermont-Lyndon (13-11, 8-6) is seeded fourth. Both teams will host quarterfinal contests this Saturday.

UMaine-Farmington (6-19, 6-8) and Thomas (6-18, 5-9) earned the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, to complete the six-team tournament field.

Conference tiebreaking procedures were used to separate the third and fourth seeded teams. After comparing split head-to-head results, results against conference opponents were reviewed one at a time starting with the highest ranked team and continuing down until the tie was broken. Results were the same against the top two seeds, Husson and Maine Maritime, and SUNY Canton won the advantage with a 2-0 record against No. 5 UMaine-Farmington (UMF).

Two quarterfinal contests will be played on Saturday, as No. 3 SUNY Canton hosts No. 6 Thomas, and No. 5 UMF travels to No. 4 NVU-Lyndon. Tip-off times will be finalized Thursday morning.

Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinal round which will be played on Friday, February 22, at top-seeded Husson. The Eagles will play the winner of the UMF versus NVU-Lyndon quarterfinal, and the No. 2 Mariners will take on the winner of the SUNY Canton versus Thomas quarterfinal contest. Game times will be finalized Thursday morning.

Semifinal winners will square off for the conference championship on Saturday, February 23, at Husson at 2:00 PM.

The NAC Women's Basketball Champion will receive an automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The first round of the national tournament is March 1.
