The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) announced its major award winners and All-Region selections on Wednesday morning.
Nominations for NEWBA awards and All-Region were submitted by both coaches and sports information directors in the region, and selections were made based on a vote by coaches. Statistics include conference tournament games.
Husson's Kenzie Worcester (Washburn, Maine) was named to the All-Region 2nd Team. The senior guard capped an impressive career by leading Husson to its fourth consecutive NAC championship, earning her fourth straight NAC Tournament MVP award in the process. The NAC Player of the Year averaged 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Worcester was also selected to play in the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic, which will be held on Saturday, March 23 at Blake Arena on the campus of Springfield College at 1 p.m. She is one of 23 players selected for this honor, and will play on the dark-uniform team.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) senior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) was named the NEWBA Player of the Year, while Wesleyan freshman guard Caleigh Ryan (New York, N.Y.) received Rookie of the Year honors. Additionally, Adrienne Shibles of Bowdoin College was recognized as the NEWBA Coach of the Year.
The Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) announced the All-State team on Wednesday as well.
Worcester was selected to the First-Team All-State. Fellow NAC player Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) from Maine Maritime was named to the Second-Team All-State. A First-Team All-NAC selection, Felix averaged 14 points per game on a league-leading 55% shooting, and also collected 124 rebounds, 28 steals and 21 blocks on the season.
