NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Beth Pion, Becker
(Junior, Center – Enfield, Conn.)
Pion was named the MVP of the NAC Women’s Basketball tournament leading the Hawks to their first NAC title. The junior center scored 17 points in a semifinal victory over host Castleton and followed with 18 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks in the title game. For the week, Pion averaged just under 15 points per game with four rebounds and four blocked shots per contest.

NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sarah Brown, Wheelock College
(Sophomore, guard - Plainville, CT)
Wheelock sophomore Sarah Brown averaged 35 points this week earning NAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Brown had 23 points in a loss to Elms on Tuesday and then exploded for a career high 47 points including 10 3-pointers in a 90-49 win over College of New Rochelle on Sunday.

 

Co-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Brittany Hunt, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Guard - Hickory, NC)
The freshman guard averaged 13 points per game in two huge conference wins for the Lady Mariners this week. Hunt had 10 points (3 three's) and 2 steals in a 65-40 win over Farmington and then led MMA with 16 points (3 three's) and 3 rebounds in a 66-52 Eastern Division clinching winover Husson College.

 

Kaitlyn Wechsler, Lesley University
(FR, F - Merrick, N.Y.)
In two games this weekend, freshman Kaitlyn Wechsler averaged 20.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 apg. and 2.0 spg. Against Thomas College, Wechsler scored a season-high 25 points to lead the Lynx.

NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kristin Karat, Becker College
(Sr, G - Enfield, CT)
Kristin Karat Sr Guard (Enfield, CT) Karat averaged 20 points, 3.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals last week for the Hawks. Becker went 2-1 (2-1 NAC) on the week. In a mid-week 73-44 win over Bay Path College Karat had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Kristin followed that up with a 19 point and 5 rebound performance vs. Johnson State College in a 48-36 win. In the weeks only loss 55-45 vs. Castleton, Karat paced the Hawks with 20 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ashley Busque, Me.-Farmington
(FR, G - Belgrade, ME)
Busque led the team in scoring (15 points) and rebounding (eight boards) in the Beavers' loss to conference foe Thomas.

NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shelby Bradford, Husson College
(Jr, F - Lee, ME)
The Eagles were 2-0 in conference play this week and 2-1 overall. Bradford averaged a double double on the week; 17.7 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2.3 steals. Her high for the week was 21 points and 17 rebounds in a win over Johnson State. Bradford was 19-45 from the field and 15-22 from the foul line.

 

CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Amethyst Cousins, Maine Maritime
(Freshman, Forward - Bass Harbor, Maine)
The freshman forward had an outstanding week for MMA averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds while averaging only 18 minutes per game. She shot 7-13 (54%) from the floor and 11-13 (85%) from the free throw line. She had 17 points and 11 rebounds in a win against Johnson State and 8 points (3-3 from the floor and 2-2 from the free throw line) and 6 rebounds in a loss to Castleton.

 

 

Cortney Barrett, Thomas
(Fr. F – Monmouth, Maine)
Barrett averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 79% from the field. The freshman forward scored 10 points in a win over Wheelock and dropped 15 points with 12 rebounds 3 assist and 3 blocks in a victory over Lesley.

Caitlyn Laflin, Me.-Farmington
(SO, F - Farmingdale, ME)
Laflin scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked a shot and made three steals in the Beavers' lone game last week -- a loss at Colby.

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Tatum Welch, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Forward - Newport, ME)
Welch helped MMA to a 3-0 week averaging 9 points and 9 rebounds per game. The freshman shot 10-22 from the floor and 5-6 from the free throw line. Tatum had 11 points and 9 rebounds against Husson and then had 11 points and 11 rebounds at Elms on Friday night. In limited action at Becker she had 4 points and 6 rebounds.

Jessica Hunt, Bay Path College
(So., F - Madison, CT)
Jessica Hunt averaged 18 points and 18.5 rebounds per game while shooting 62% from the field in two games during the week. The sophomore accounted for over 40% of Bay Path's offensive production.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Justine Tokas, Elms College
(Fr., G - Enfield, CT)
Tokas averaged 13.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals in an 0-3 week for the Blazers, including a collegiate career-high 15 points against Hartwick.

CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Jess Banks, Castleton State College
(Jr., Guard - Milford, CT)
Banks led Castleton to a pair of NAC wins, 57-38 over Thomas and 65-44 over Maine-Farmington. The junior point guard averaged 15.5 points over the two games, shooting 60% (12-20) from the field and 54% (7-13) from three-point range. Banks also grabbed 4.5 rebounds per game, dished out 7.5 assists and turned it over just five total times while playing 33.5 minutes per contest.

Shelby Bradford, Husson
(So., F - Lee, Maine)
Bradford led the Eagles to a 3-0 week including a pair of NAC wins. In a key NAC game against Lesley, Bradford had 23 points, 15 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists, pacing Husson to a 78-74. In a non conference win over UMFK she had 16 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Playing 14 minutes in a win against Wheelock she had 6 points and 3 rebounds.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Heidi Miller, Becker College
(FR, Forward - Winnisquam/Sanbornton, NH)
Miller helped the Becker College Hawks improved their NAC record to 3-2, with two impressive wins over Wheelock College and Elms College. Miller averaged 14 points per game this week, including 20 points Tuesday night against Wheelock.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Caitlyn Laflin, Me-Farmington
(So., F – Farmingdale, ME)
Laflin led the Beavers to a 2-1 week averaging 19 points and 7 rebounds. The sophomore score 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 80-70 win over Plymouth State and tallied 23 points with three blocked shots in an 83-69 victory over Maine Maritime.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kaitlyn Wechsler, Lesley University
(Fr. F – Merrick, N.Y.)
Freshman Kaitlyn Wechsler continued her impressive rookie campaign averaging 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as the Lynx went 2-0 in non-conference games this week. She also had six steals and three assists in the victories. Wechsler was near perfect from the line hitting 92.9% of her free throws going 13-of -14.

Martineau tossed in 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a 50-49 win over Green Mountain in JSC's only game of the week. 

 

 

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Tatum Welch, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Forward - Newport, ME)
The freshman forward played her best basketball of the season on her way to making the all-tournament team at the Southern maine Invitational Tournament. In the opening game against Clark she recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She followed that up with 7 points and 9 rebounds in the win over UMPI. She averaged 9.5 points and 10 rebounds in MMA's 1-1 weekend.

Bradford scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, with 5 steals and 3 assists in an four point win over conference-rival Maine-Farmington. The junior shot 7-13 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line in Husson's only game of the week.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ashley Busque, Me.-Farmington
(FR, G - Belgrade, ME)
Busque scored 12 points with six boards and a pair of steals in the Beavers' 76-72 loss to conference foe Husson.

NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kristin Karat, Becker College
(Sr, G - Enfield, CT)
Kristin Karat (Enfield, CT) averaged 25.5 points and 7 rebounds last week for the Lady Hawks. The Hawks went 1-1 (0-1 NAC). Karat had a double-double 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 87-83 overtime win over Mount Ida. In a 71-62 conference loss to Lesley University Karat poured in a game high 25 points.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Kaitlyn Wechsler, Lesley University
(FR, F - Merrick, N.Y.)
Wechsler averaged 13.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 bpg, 1.5 spg and 25.5 minutes per game as she was a major part of Lesley's 2-0 start in conference play this week. She was 11-19 from the floor and 3-4 from the line as the Lynx defeated Bay Path and Becker to improve their record to 5-2 (2-0 NAC).

NAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Caitlyn Laflin, Me.-Farmington
(SO, F - Farmingdale, ME)
Laflin led the Beavers to a 2-1 week, including hitting three free throws with no time remaining to slip past Lasell 67-66 in the Williams Holiday Classic consolation game Sunday. Laflin finished the game with team-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds. In a 76-53 loss to Endicott on Saturday, Laflin scored 12 points and pulled down eight boards. In a 69-58 win over NAC foe Thomas, Laflin tallied team-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds.

 

Co-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK

Jillian Ross, Me.-Farmington
(FR, G - Belfast, ME)
Ross came off the bench to provide some punch for the Beavers in a 2-1 week. Ross tallied eight points and grabbed seven boards in a 69-58 win over NAC foe Thomas. She also added eight points in a 76-53 loss to Endicott in the opening round of the Williams Holiday Classic. 

Katie Pushard, Maine Maritime Academy
(Freshman, Guard - Winthrop, ME)
Freshman point guard Katie Pushard was outstanding in MMA's 3-0 week. Pushard came off the bench to record a career high 13 points and a career high 6 assists in the teams win over NESCAC rival Colby College. For the week she shot 5-12 from the floor and 15-18 from the free throw line. She averaged 8 points and 4 assists in the 3 wins.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jessica Hunt, Bay Path College
(So., Forward - Madison, CT)
Hunt helped the Bay Path College Wildcats to a 3rd Place Finish in the Bard College Tip-Off. She averaged 25.5 points and 15 rebounds per game while being named to the All-Tournament team. She chipped in with 5 blocks and 11 steals also in two contests as well.

 

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Brianne Caira, Lesley University
(Fr., C - Pelham, N.H.)
Freshman center Brianne Caira grabbed MVP honors at the Bon Appetit Classic Tip-Off Tournament this weekend as she helped lead the Lynx to a tournament championship. Caira averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds in two contests including 16 points, 11 boards, two blocks, two assists, and four steals in a victory over Yeshiva.
