NAC Women's Soccer Weekly Honors (Week Ending 9/16/18)

 

 

Player of the Week 

Kelsey Cauchon, Northern Vermont-Johnson

(Jr., F - Colchester, Vt.)

Cauchon was the offensive power for the Badgers, contributing 4 goals in a 5-0 win over Me.- Presque Isle to give the Badgers a win in their first conference matchup. Cauchon has scored 11 goals on the season.

   

Defensive Player of the Week 

Emily Conway, Maine Maritime

(So., GK - Charleston, S.C.)

Conway was impressive in net to secure her second-straight shutout, her third of the season, and 3-0 victory for the Mariners over UMaine-Farmington in the NAC opener for both teams. The sophomore goalie turned away all four shots she faced.

   

Rookie of the Week 

Sydney Morton, Husson

(Fr., F - Pittsfield, Maine, 7)

In the beginning of the second half against SUNY Canton, Morton stripped a Kangaroo defender of the ball, taking one touch before volleying it past a fast-approaching keeper into the back of the net. She took four shots, three were on goal (.750), and one found the back of the net. Morton's first goal as an Eagle helped secure Husson's first win of the season, 1-0 in the conference opener.

 

     
 

AROUND THE NAC

North Atlantic Conference opened September 15.

SUNY Canton Allison Wakefield combined to make 22 saves as the Roos dropped a pair of contests to SUNY Potsdam (5-0) and Husson (1-0) this week.

UMaine-Farmington went 0-3 on the week with losses to UNE, Maine Maritime and Bowdoin.

Husson after a 5-0 loss to a tough opponent in Colby, Husson overcame a long trip to SUNY Canton with the help from freshman Sydney Morton, scoring the lone goal of the contest for a 1-0 win.

NVU-Johnson went 0-3 on the week with losses to non-conference opponents UNE and Bowdoin, and conference opponent Maine Maritime.

NVU-Lyndon fell 2-0 to Thomas in the NAC opener and their only match of the week.

Maine Maritime went 1-0 this week and secured their season-straight shutout on Saturday in their NAC opener against UMaine-Farmington. The Mariners host UMaine-Machias on Wednesday night before heading to SUNY Canton on Saturday.

Thomas defeated NVU-Lyndon in their conference opener on Saturday, 2-0. Thomas visits USM on Wednesday then hosts a conference match with NVU-Johnson on Saturday.

UMaine-Presque Isle went 0-2 this past week while on a road trip to Vermont. On Saturday, UMPI fell to Northern Vermont University-Johnson 5-0 in their NAC opener. The Owls narrowly missed out on their first victory of the season on Sunday, losing a tough 3-2 game in double overtime at Vermont Tech. Despite competing without 2 key players, Me-Presque Isle battled the Knights until the game winner was scored at the 100:46 mark. Senior Jordi Legassie and Junior Sofia Crouse both of Presque Isle, Maine scored goals and defender Casey Lovely (Easton, Maine) stepped up to fill in as keeper.
