Colby-Sawyer Wins NEAC Women's Tennis Title

The Colby-Sawyer College women's tennis team defeated Keuka, 8-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship match at the Sportime Tennis club late Saturday night. The Chargers win their second straight conference title in the third year of affiliation. The championship is the program's seventh overall.

The Chargers improve to 11-8, and earn the program's third bid to the NCAA Tournament. Colby-Sawyer will find out where and who the team will play in the NCAA First Round on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at NCAA.com

The Chargers got off to an important 3-0 start after the completion of doubles play. The No. 1 doubles duo of Elizabeth Lincoln and Ashlyn Ramsay cruised to an 8-1 victory over Emily Knapsack and Nikki Wilkins. Colby-Sawyer's Oxana Tkachenko and Ellen Graham dispatched Chelsea Craine and Heidi Van Buskirk, 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match saw each team fighting to the end with Colby-Sawyer duo Ziyoda Saidova and Allyse Mullen coming away with a hard fought 9-7 victory.

Lincoln swept her singles opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the top flight to put the Chargers.

The match clinching point came from Ramsay who won her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2.

Tkachenko also took her third singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-2.

Graham (6-2, 6-2) and Mullen (6-3, 6-1) also won their No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches, respectively.
