2015 NEAC East Women's Tennis All-Conference Announced; O'Connor, Ramsay & Smith Earn Top Honors

Colby-Sawyer senior Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) has been selected as the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division Women's Tennis Player of the Year, while Charger teammate Aislinn O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn.) was tabbed Rookie of the Year and Husson's Sarah Smith (Calais, Maine) was named the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. Colby-Sawyer head coach Barry Schoonmaker was voted the 2015 NEAC Coach of the Year and eight women's tennis student-athletes were selected to the Sportsmanship Team to headline the 2015 All-Conference announcement.

NEAC East All-Conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.

Ramsay claimed her second-straight Player of the Year award, while also earning Rookie of the Year in 2012. The senior enters the NEAC East Championship as Colby-Sawyer's all-time leader in career wins (117), career doubles wins (64), and is tied for first in singles wins (53). She was named NEAC East Player of the Week three times this season and recently was honored by the ECAC as Co-Player of the Month. She remarkably finishes her NEAC career with a perfect 23-0 singles record and a 24-0 record in doubles.

O'Connor has been an incredible addition to the Charger lineup. She posted an overall record of 8-4 in singles action, including a perfect 5-0 record in conference play. When teamed up with Evelyn Miller at the No. 2 doubles position, the tandem has put up a 12-2 dual record, a 2-1 mark in tournament play, and a flawless 7-0 tally against conference opponents. O'Connor earned NEAC East Rookie of the Week honors once this season and becomes the Charger's second-straight Rookie of the Year and third in four years.

Smith has been selected as the first women's tennis Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. She is being recognized for excelling academically and athletically throughout her undergraduate experience. The Psychology major has served as a role model in both the classroom and on the court and is being acknowledged for her commitment to tennis and her studies. Smith was honored by Husson in 2015 for having an outstanding grade point average and holds the President's Leadership Scholarship at the university. On the court, she earned a 6-1 record in singles and a 5-2 mark in doubles, while posting a 4-1 tally in conference action for both singles and doubles.

Schoonmaker has earned his third NEAC East Coach of the Year award. The seven-year mentor directed the Chargers to a 12-2 overall record, including a spotless 7-0 mark in conference play to earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Since joining the league in the fall of 2011, Schoonmaker has led the Chargers to a 34-1 regular season conference record, three NEAC East Championships, and three NEAC Crossover championships. The Colby-Sawyer head coach has also produced four Players of the Year, three Rookies of the Year, and 27 all-conference selections.

Joining O'Connor and Ramsay on the first team singles all-conference squad were sophomore Charger teammate Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine), Husson freshman Meridith Blessard (Lincoln, Maine), MCLA sophomore Emily Deaso (Pittsfield, Mass.), and Thomas junior Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine).

First team doubles selections include the Colby-Sawyer duo of Ramsay and Woodside, the Husson tandem of Blessard and junior Katie Pratt (Rockport, Maine), and the MCLA team of Deaso and sophomore Mariza Sfakianaki (Williamstown, Mass.).

Second team singles honorees include Castleton sophomore Ciara Bannister (St. Albans, Vt.), freshman Jackie Lisak (Rochester, N.Y.), and seniors Sara Novenstern (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and Meg Susslin (St. Albans, Vt.), Johnson State junior Katherina Von Woerkom (Ashville, N.C.), and MCLA's Sfakianaki.

Second team doubles choices include the Castleton pairs of Bannister and freshman Kirsten Kruk (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Lisak and Novenstern and the Colby-Sawyer team of sophomore Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) and O'Connor.

New to the conference this season is the selection of a Sportsmanship Team which is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the women's tennis culture and match environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that go beyond the tennis playing rules and etiquette. The following eight individuals have been selected to the NEAC East Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Team, Castleton freshman Kirsten Kruk (Clifton Park, N.Y.), Colby-Sawyer sophomore Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.), Green Mountain sophomore Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.), Husson junior Katie Pratt (Rockport, Maine), Johnson State's Von Woerkom, Lyndon junior Alex Maynard (East Hampton, Conn.), MCLA senior Kylie Dumas (Pownal, Vt.), and Thomas sophomore Amelia Guimond (Fort Kent, Maine).
