Colby-Sawyer Wins Third-Straight Volleyball Title

The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team won its third consecutive North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship after defeating Maine Maritime 3-0 on Saturday morning.

Colby-Sawyer (22-10) won by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-13. Maine Maritime falls to 18-10. The Chargers have won each of their three titles over the Mariners.

The Chargers will make a trip to the NCAA for the sixth time in school history and will find out Monday at 11:00 a.m. where they will travel and who they will play. The Division III Women's Volleyball selection show can be seen at NCAA.com or clicking here.

Colby-Sawyer opened the match with a 5-0 run capped by a pair of aces from senior Courtney O'Hara (Mystic, Conn.). Maine Maritime scored three of the next four points, but the Chargers slowly pulled away and ended the set on a 6-1 run capped by a block by O'Hara and freshman Gabrielle Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to win 25-14.

Colby-Sawyer College, 2013 Volleyball Champions The Mariners regrouped in the second set, which featured seven ties and four lead changes. After the Chargers grabbed an early 6-2 lead, the Mariners responded with a 6-1 run to take their first lead of the match on a Betsy Trenckmann (La Veta, Colo.) ace. The set went back and forth for the next several points with each team struggling to keep the serve in the court. The Chargers began to distance themselves from the Maine Maritime pressure after the score was knotted at 13-13. The home team scored five of the last six points and clinched the set on an O'Hara kill to win 25-19.

The third set began with a 10-1 run by the Chargers. The Mariners did not go quietly as they pulled within three points at 13-10. From that point, the Colby-Sawyer attack was too much and the Chargers went on to finish the set and the match on a 12-3 run.

Colby-Sawyer was led by junior Jackie Keating (Marshfield, Mass.), who was named NAC Tournament MVP for the second straight season. She hit .458 and recorded a match-high 12 kills.
