Perez was instrumental in the Mariners' 3-0 week, leading all players in three matches in digs with 49 total digs (5.44 d/s). In the Mariners' 3-0 win over Southern Maine the reigning NAC Defensive Player of the Year tallied 15 digs, one ace, one kill, and one assist. On Saturday in the 3-0 win over UNE, Perez tallied 21 digs, two aces, and an assist. In the Mariners' first-ever three set win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine, the libero recorded 13 digs and three assists.
Rookie of the Week
Rachel Melampy, Maine Maritime

Melampy made an immediate impact on the Mariners squad this week, leading the team to a 3-0 opening weekend and the programs first-ever three set win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine, while averaging a double-double. The freshman outside hitter totaled 43 kills (4.78 k/s), 37 digs (4.11 d/s), five total blocks, three service aces and one assist. Against the University of Southern Maine, she tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, and added two aces, and two blocks. Against the University of New England, the freshman tallied a match-high 17 kills and 16 digs while also adding two blocks, and an ace. In the Mariners' final match of the week she registered 15 kills, 10 digs, one assist and a block.
AROUND THE NAC
SUNY Canton captured the Best Western Plus-Ground Round Cardinal Classic with a five set win v. the host Cardinals and three sweeps against Sage, Plymouth State and Utica College. Marissa Ixtlahuac was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 44 kills (3.14/set) and hitting a remarkable .302 (44-18-86). Peyton Robinson became the Roos all-time career assists leader in the NCAA era as she now has 3,472 career assists.
Husson fell to Clark University, 3-0, and WPI, 3-0, in the Worcester City Tournament on Saturday morning.
NVU-Johnson went 0-3 on opening weekend, losing matches to MCLA, Norwich and Southern Vermont.
NVU-Lyndon dropped all four matches that they played over the weekend. On Saturday, they lost a pair of 3-0 decisions to Fitchburg State and New England College at a tri-match at NEC. On Sunday, they also dropped a pair of 3-0 results, this time to Southern Vermont and Norwich on the opening day of play at the Vermont Volleyball Classic.
Maine Maritime started the 2018 season off with a weekend sweep of Southern Maine, University of New England and Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Freshman Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) made her presence known as she averaged a double-double over all three matches. The Mariners travel to Colby College on Wednesday night before heading to Connecticut to take on Western Connecticut, Coast Guard, Oneonta and Connecticut College.
