Player of the Week

Devine Hoskie, Maine-Presque Isle

(Jr, OH/RS - Shonto, AZ)

Devine Hoskie, a Junior Outside Hitter/RS for the UMPI Owls had an outstanding weekend as her Team won 3 out of 4 matches played on the road. She recorded 12 kills, 13 aces, and 13 digs in a four set triumph over Castleton (3-1), setting the pace for the weekend. Devine raked in 37 kills (2.86/set), 21 aces (1.61/set) and 35 digs (2.69/set) in wins over Castleton, Green Mountain College (3-0), Unity (3-0) and a loss to Southern Maine (0-3).

   

Defensive Player of the Week

Maria Perez, Maine Maritime

(Jr., L - San Juan, Puerto Rico)

Perez helped lead the Mariners to a 3-0 week and the team's third-straight Maritime Classic victory. The junior libero totaled 23 digs (2.56 d/s), seven aces, (0.78 sa/s) and seven assists (0.78 a/s) over nine sets. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over SUNY Maritime, Perez tallied three digs, two aces, and two assists. Against a tough Merchant Marine team, Perez recorded nine digs, two aces and an assist. On Sunday, Perez helped give the Mariners their third-straight Maritime Classic Tournament win with a match-high 11 digs, and added four assists and three aces against Mass. Maritime.

   

Rookie of the Week 

Rachel Melampy, Maine Maritime

(Fr., OH - Duxbury, Mass.)

Melampy led Maine Maritime Academy to clinch the Maritime Classic for the third-consecutive season taking Tournament MVP honors after totaling 35 kills (5.00 k/s), hitting .474 percent, 15 digs (2.14 d/s), two aces, two assists and a block over seven sets. The freshman led the team with 11 kills, six digs and an assist in the 3-0 win over SUNY Maritime and followed that up with another team-best 12 kills against Merchant Marine in a 3-0 win, while also adding eight digs, a block, an assist and an ace. In the Mariners final match of the week, the outside hitter led all players with 12 kills, and contributed one dig and an ace, while hitting an impressive .600 percent.

 

AROUND THE NAC

North Atlantic Conference play begins October 13.

SUNY Canton Melissa McMaster posted a match-high 15 kills hitting a remarkable .522 on 23 swings (15-3-23) as the Roos dropped their lone match of the week, 3-0 to SUNY Potsdam.

Husson battled Southern Maine and Curry College on their home court, dropping both matches.

NVU-Johnson went 1-0 this past week with a 3-0 win over Castleton University.

NVU-Lyndon had a quiet week off, and get back to action Monday night against rival NVU-Johnson.

Maine Maritime went 3-0 this week, capturing their third-straight Maritime Classic title over the weekend with wins over SUNY Maritime, USMMA and Mass. Maritime. The squad travels to Husson University on Wednesday night for a non-conference match.

UMaine-Presque Isle won three of their four matches over the weekend. The Owls defeated Castleton 3-1 before falling to the Host USM Huskies in three sets on Saturday. Me-Presque Isle defeated Green Mountain and Unity College in three sets each at Unity on Sunday. Junior Devine Hoskie had an outstanding weekend for the Owls and setter Laura Aroz contributed 100 assists over the four games. The Team will play at Colby College on Friday and two matches at Gordon College on Saturday.
