CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball defeated SUNY Canton, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to claim their third-straight North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship inside of Smith Gymnasium.
The top-seeded Mariners improve to 22-6 on the season and will advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year. The second-seeded Kangaroos conclude their season at 14-13 on the season.
The Mariners claimed the first set 25-13. The two teams battled back-and-forth in the second set but Maine Maritime edged Canton 25-23 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the third set and cruised to the 25-9 victory and the championship.
Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) led the Mariners with 14 kills, four blocks, and a dig to earn Tournament MVP honors, Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added nine kills, eight digs and a block to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team and Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led all players with 27 assists, seven kills, six digs and three blocks to also gain All-Tournament honors. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led the team with 12 digs and also added an assist.
Marissa Ixtlahuac led SUNY Canton with eight kills and a dig, while Peyton Robinson earned All-Tournament honors, posting a double-double of 21 assists and 12 digs, and Jenna Roat also earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team with 11 digs.
